The Pilates Reformer is the most popular and versatile piece of all the Pilates equipment. It opens the door to hundreds of strengthening and stretching exercises and also acts as a powerful rehabilitation tool. Exercises on the Pilates Reformer machine are precise and combine movements in several planes of motion, which requires a strong mind/body connection. At JUMP Physio it allows us to provide a big workout in a small space.
What is the Pilates Reformer
The Pilates Reformer is an exercise machine used to incorporate the Pilates exercise technique. Springs, leverage and body weight are used as resistance while performing movements targeting specific muscle groups. Workouts on the Pilates Reformer consist of controlled, flowing movements working your muscles through a full range of motion.
The Pilates Reformer allows you to work very precisely with alignment, core strength and flexibility. At JUMP Physio the Pilates Reformer is used to speed rehabilitation post injury and as an additional challenge for those practising Pilates. When you book a one to one session on the Pilates Reformer with our instructor, he will design a program for you and modify the exercises with your specific needs in mind.
Matwork vs Reformer Work
With Pilates matwork exercises, your body provides both the resistance and assistance for Pilates exercises, affected by gravity and your body weight. Pilates Reformers extend the available range much further, offering either additional resistance or support. Exercises can be easier or more challenging as desired.
